Mobile Maintenance is a 15+ years old company in Central Texas that provides on-site preventative and reactive maintenance services for the Oil & Gas industry. Out of their 4 locations around the US, their fleet of maintenance vehicles travels all across the country providing services to some of the biggest companies in the Oil & Gas industry including some Fortune 100 companies.
When they reached out to us, they had a proper vision to digitally transform their business process. At the time they were using a paper-based system that integrated with a few 3rd party applications to handle their very complex service requests, on-field form management, and the invoicing process. After our discussion with the leadership team, we identified that the system that field technicians use when they go out to rural areas will be the center of the user experience. With this digital solution, our main goal was to make the technician's life easier as they were already dealing with extremely tough work conditions day in and day out.
Besides this, the Mobile Maintenance leadership team wanted to streamline the backend work that was done in the HQ to facilitate the on-field employees as well, since they were losing hundreds of thousands of dollars having to work around the complexities of multiple 3rd party software.
Innovation through familiarity
The paper-based system presented huge logistical issues. It was tough and cluttered, but it worked. The technicians have always been trained with paper and they were so used to this, and sometimes found this easier. So to keep things familiar, we decided to build an iPad app with an intuitive and simple user experience for the technicians. The experience in the app follows a familiar flow to the paper-based system, yet we made it faster and efficient by avoiding repetitive tasks and authorizations that papers required. We also made it work independently even in rural areas that don’t have proper Internet connectivity.

Now that all the data was coming through the iPad app, we could build a seamless and fully automated system that saved an incredible amount of operational time for the company with automated form generation, invoicing, and central inventory. We built the system to be very flexible based on a design framework that is scalable and adaptable with Mobile Maintenance’s growth and market requirements.
