The challenge

Math learning loss, and no tool built to close it.

Post-COVID, K–12 districts across the U.S. faced deep math learning loss, hitting low-income schools and Black and Latino students hardest. Existing learning platforms couldn't adapt in real time or fit the way a classroom actually runs. Knomadix set out to bridge that gap: one unified AI operating system for lesson creation, live instruction, performance tracking, and intelligent tutoring, all at once.

The approach

One system, layered for every person in the room.

We defined a multi-layer UX system spanning web and tablet, a no-code authoring tool so teachers could build adaptive lessons without engineers, and a real-time coaching interface powered by AI. Every persona, from a struggling student to a district lead, got a view shaped for them, on one coherent system. We built it alongside DeSoto ISD and the Big Thought Institute so the flows matched how classrooms really work.

The impact

Real gains, in real districts.

Knomadix reached district-wide adoption in DeSoto ISD, and pilot programs posted 2.5×–7× gains in STAAR math proficiency against state averages. The platform was featured on NBC DFW's “Carter in the Classroom” as a leading AI-powered math model, and recognized across Gates-aligned education research.

What this project proves about AI product design.

AI needs a human-legible surface

The model isn't the product. The interface that makes its feedback trustworthy to a child and a district admin is. That surface was the work.
