The world's smartest fitness studio.
Lumin Fitness is a tech-driven boutique brand offering AI coaching and motion tracking for personalised group workouts, blending personal training with group energy. Lumin wanted to bring that same innovative experience to its mobile app.
Great in-studio tech. A mobile app lagging behind.
Despite the innovative in-studio experience, the app had fallen behind: the UI felt outdated, and key flows were buried deep in the information architecture.
- 01Static, outdated UI with no visual feedback, creating uncertainty around whether input registered.
- 02Poor task efficiency: core workflows required 5+ taps and 25+ seconds.
- 03Hidden features: personalisation and workout recommendations were buried in navigation.
Every animation had to earn its place.
We partnered through our subscription model with a sprint-based approach, working alongside Lumin's product and engineering teams over Slack and huddles for rapid feedback loops. Motion wasn't decoration. Each animation had to serve the user.
AI guidance layer
Contextual micro-animations surface AI assistance without disrupting flow. Visual cues clearly distinguish AI actions from user actions.
Purposeful motion
Every animation serves a function: confirming actions, signalling state changes, and directing attention where it's needed.
Celebrated micro-interactions
Dopamine-triggering animations at key success moments build habit-forming feedback loops that drive retention.
A hybrid animation pipeline tuned for performance.
Interactive, state-driven animations used Rive's state-machine architecture, letting designers embed interaction logic directly into the animation files. That eliminated developer guesswork and ensured pixel-perfect implementation of complex behaviours like loading sequences and AI-activation triggers.
Simpler looping animations deployed via lightweight Lottie files. Designers delivered implementation-ready Rive files with pre-built state machines, cutting developer cognitive load and enabling same-day fixes through Slack and Rive.

For product leaders
What this project proves about motion.
Motion drives measurable outcomes
When animation serves a purpose, it improves conversion and retention, not just aesthetics. Every motion element should map to a user goal.
Make AI interactions visible
If your product has AI features, give them clear visual presence. Users adopt what they can see and understand. Hidden intelligence is wasted investment.
Performance is non-negotiable
Set explicit asset-size budgets upfront. Tools like Rive enable rich interaction at minimal cost. Nobody likes lag.
